Napster
This little bundle of love arrived for a day visit in a little shopping bag. They arrived late Napster and her owner, because Elaine explained '...as soon as napster saw her carry bag she disappeared behind the piano and had to be coaxed out with treats.' Once here, Napster popped her head out of the shopper, had a quick look at her surroundings and then wandered around all day like she owned the place, looking unimpressed and demanding treats. At 15 years old this little mad
Uni stretches her neck

Comfy Cats (Pandora and Chicken)
I woke this morning to the gentle motion of little feet trotting across the bed. I knew who it was immediately because as her pace quickened I detected the bambi like spring in the step that is unique to Chicken. I was just thinking this when she landed full bodied on the calf of my right leg and wrapped her fluffy paws around it. I twisted around just in time to see Chicken collapse, sideways onto the bed, before bouncing back up and springing out of sight. She appeared aga

Medicine Time
Sway arrived with a mysterious inch long cut on the back of his right leg. The vet has supplied some medicine but being such a fluffy thing it’s hard to locate the exact position of the cut, and being a relative stranger the first couple of times I bathed and put gel on Sways wound, were a little tricky. I held Sway gently but firmly from behind and dabbed the cotton soaked wool onto where I imagined the wound was. He’d soon wiggle out of my grip and I certainly don’t want to

Sway the Siberian
Sway arrived on Monday evening with his owner Mark. We had met previously, Sway and I, when his co-owner Agnes brought him round to my place to check it, and I suppose me, out. Luckily and unusually I had no other cat guests and Sway was free to wander around the flat while Agnes and I watched him explore. The creature that emerged from Mark’s basket looked like Sway but seemed so much bigger. First one huge soft fluffy paw emerged and then his little pink nose, outlined in b

Barney Plays the Long game
Saturday morning and Barney and Tilly were still not happy with each other. Barney wasn’t talking to Tilly and they sat on opposite sides of the room with their backs to each other. If they happened to pass each other, in the narrow hallway for example, they would both grumble so low and long that it felt like the beginnings of an earthquake, the rumble growing slowly beneath the floorboards. I had a busy day ahead and as well as checking on Rameses upstairs and giving him a

Cat Swap
On Friday morning I woke to the gentle tapping of a furless paw on my face. I thought Rameses was trying to wake me up, but he was just testing to see whether my face could take his weight. He decided it/I could and I felt the weight of his body as his paw landed in the hollow of my cheek. I was just opening an eye to see what was going on when the second paw landed, filling my socket and briefly turning everything black, before quickly stepping over my face and continuing on

Cats & Carnival
Carnival Sunday and Pandora sits on the printer and stares agitated at vibrating window. Her eyes are wide and her ears stand up stiff and alert. I close the window, muffling the sound and stopping most of the vibration but the cats still look agitated and make their feelings clear by staying in the bedroom for the rest of the day. When I go to check on them I am relieved because the bedroom is quiet and sunny and apart from the distant beat of music, they seem undisturbed.

Pandora and Chicken meet Supermouse
My two lovely friends arrived at 8am this morning with their owner Alex, and after escaping their baskets, ran around re-aquainting themselves with everything. They have both grown bigger, Pandora being wider in the face and Chicken looking sleeker and firmer and much less chicken like than before. They both paused and stared with interest at the closed bedroom door before continuing their inspection of my flat, curious but too distracted to hang around. After Alex said goodb

Baguettes Paws
Baguette has been keeping me company the last few days and is as funny as she is sweet. Now she is settled in she has access to the bedroom and disappears for an hour or two, bird watching at the window or snuggling under the bed in my shoe box. The real bonus however is that at night she comes in and sleeps next to me. Typically she lands on my back, and I feel the dent of her just below the nape of my nape. She pauses before walking up the back of my head and dismounting at

Baguette's summer holiday
Indeed every time I looked she was somewhere different, either on top, underneath or sniffing out something new. She loves the balcony and made a b-line for the cat grass, later sitting on the rattan armchair for ages and watching traffic. Incredibly trusting and friendly she wasted no time on her first day twisting around my legs and jumping on the sofa and sidling up next to me; she even gave me a nose bump. Not yet quite sure of me though, she wouldn’t let me give her a pr
